Tiverton 1 Cardiff City 3

Cardiff produced a professional performance to seal a 3-1 win and end Tiverton's hopes of reaching the second round of the FA Cup for the first time.

The match had been switched to Ninian Park because of crowd safety fears, but it was the non-league side who started the brighter.

Striker Phil Everett came close for Tiverton after 11 minutes but his 18-yard strike was well saved by Bluebirds keeper Neil Alexander.

But Alan Cork's side began to dominate and Leo Fortune-West saw his shot go narrowly wide before Cardiff grabbed the lead 11 minutes before half-time.

Robert Earnshaw's cross was not dealt with by the Tiverton defence and Paul Brayson was on hand to stab the ball into the net.

Earnshaw almost created a second goal with another dangerous delivery on 36 minutes, but Graham Kavanagh's volley was blocked by Town midfielder Dave Steele.

However, with 55 minutes gone, Des Hamilton doubled the visitors' advantage with a powerful low shot, and 16 minutes from time Earnshaw's goal wrapped up the victory.

Tiverton did pull a goal back, but Kevin Nancekivell's effort was merely a consolation.
