Leon Jeanne

Cardiff's young striker Leon Jeanne has failed a random drug test, the club confirmed on Saturday.
The Wales under-21 player has tested positive for a recreational drug eight weeks ago.

The Football Association of Wales is aware of the situation and will meet with the club and Jeanne at a disciplinary hearing in the coming weeks.

Cardiff have said they stand by their man.

Said manager Alan Cork: "Leon tested positive for a Class A drug some eight weeks ago.

"For legal reasons we weren't allowed to say anything to anyone and nor was he.

"He has to go to counselling twice a week. It's disappointing to because we've tried to get the boy straight.

"We'll still persevere with him and help him the best we can.

"But Leon is not a drug addict, if anything he's got more of a drink problem."

Jeanne signed a year-year deal with Cardiff at the beginning of the season after being released by Queens Park Rangers.

The London-based club decided they had had enough of his off-field antics.

The last straw came last September when he went missing after failing to turn up for a Wales under-21 training session.
